In the past weeks, some reference design Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards have been reported by users to overheat and decrease in performance. In the examinations, it was revealed that the graphics card reached a very high value of 110 degrees. Therefore, the card compromises performance by braking itself due to overheating, but the more serious problem is the fact that this very high temperature also reduces the lifespan of the card. For now, this issue was thought to be with some reference AMD-made RX 7900 XTX cards and not broad in scope. However, tests by Der8auer reveal that this problem is much more serious.
The problem is bigger than thought
Because, since the heating problem of the RX 7900 XTX began to appear, a number of solutions have been offered. Among them, there were theories such as not being fully seated, and insufficient thermal paste on the GPU. All these theories were tried in Der8auer’s detailed tests, but the overheating problem of the RX 7900 XTX could not be resolved. Meanwhile, tests were performed on multiple reference cards.
Therefore, as we said above, according to der8auer, there is only one explanation: There is a problem with the cooling design of the reference card. The liquid in the cooling pipes somehow seems to have a circulation problem in the system and cannot fulfill its task.
AMD may recall all reference RX 7900 XTX cards
If the design of the heatsink on the reference RX 7900 XTX graphics cards is flawed as claimed, things can get very serious for AMD. Because it seems that the card is not working within specifications. It even seems likely that AMD will recall all reference Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. In the coming days, we will receive more detailed information and tests on the subject. If you have a reference RX 7900 XTX card and are experiencing this issue, we recommend contacting AMD and your vendor.
