Smart watches, which came into our lives with the widespread use of smartphones and have become indispensable for many people recently, saved the life of an 80-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease this time. The incident in the Yıldırım district of Bursa revealed how vital technology can be for disadvantaged people.
According to the information obtained, a citizen named Mehmet Yılmaz, who has Alzheimer’s disease, left his home to travel. His family, who could not reach him for hours, reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Thereupon, AFAD, ANDA Search and Rescue, Bursa Police Department and health teams took action. Yılmaz’s son shared the last location data of his father’s smart watch with the authorities, which made things easier. Search and rescue teams found the 80-year-old man as if he had laid them down with his hands.

The most pleasing part of the event was that the 80-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease was found alive. Moreover, the old man was in good health. However, Yılmaz was taken to Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital as a precautionary measure and was taken under observation.
