CrossOver, as it is known, is a popular platform that allows Windows applications and games to run as if they were native on macOS, Linux and ChromeOS systems. CodeWeavers, the company behind CrossOver, announced that the platform will get Microsoft DirectX 12 support very soon.

CrossOver currently only supports DirectX 11. DirectX 12 provides the latest graphics rendering APIs and better performance, efficiency and optimum utilization of multiple CPU and GPU cores available on Windows and Xbox. According to the company’s statement, DirectX 12 support will be coming to Macs via CrossOver, and it is possible to encounter some errors at the beginning.

Diablo will be the first game with DirectX 12 support

The company stated that they encountered many bugs that needed to be fixed in the first tests, including MoltenVK, SPIRV-Cross. It was also said that DirectX 12 support will come separately for each game and may contain bugs. Diablo II Resurrected will be the first Mac game to receive DirectX 12 support. The first beta of CrossOver 23 will go live this summer, followed by an official launch later this year.
