MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000, or Dimensity 8100 chipset, which is expected to compete with the mid-high-end Snapdragon 870, targets much higher levels.
How is the Dimensity 8100 performance?
The chipset, which uses 4 Cortex-A78 and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, includes a 6 cluster Mali-G510 graphics unit. This newly announced chip brings twice the performance increase and 22 percent better energy efficiency than the Mali-G51. The chipset, which offers 168Hz screens and 168Hz support at Full HD+ resolution or 120Hz at 1440+ resolution, also has UFS 3.1 support with LPDDR5.
Tests on AnTuTu indicate 820 thousand score levels for 5nm Dimensity 8100 is doing. The Snapdragon 888 chipset varies between 750 thousand and 880 thousand depending on the hardware of the devices. The Snapdragon 870 chipset, which is shown as a competitor, is around 730 thousand.
Mali-G510 graphics unit scored 315 thousand points. Again in the Snapdragon 888 series, the graphics unit gets 325,000 points, while the Snapdragon 870 chipset gets 250 thousand points. So the Dimensity 8100 chipset becomes an alternative to Snapdragon 888.
Dimensity 9000 chipset competes with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 while Snapdragon 8100 targets Snapdragon 888 chipset. Thus, at the top level, MediaTek will not have made room for its rival. With the 6nm Helio G series, it will have increased its power at a lower level.
