It has been announced that all civil servants in Changshu city will be paid their full salaries in digital RMB or digital Yuan from May 2023. According to the announcement by Changshu Local Financial Supervision Bureau and Changshu Municipal Finance Bureau, digital RMB payment will be made to all civil servants, including civil service personnel, public agency personnel, and personnel of state-owned units in the city.
A staff member at a local hospital has confirmed that they will receive payments in digital Yuan starting next month.
On February 6, the governments of several Chinese cities distributed 180 million Yuan ($26.5 million) worth of central bank digital currency (CBDC) during the Lunar New Year period. The city of Changshu in Jiangsu Province had previously launched a pilot program for digital RMB in Q1 2023. According to a local report, its aim is to establish an efficient and viable digital RMB business and management system by 2025.
