The chip shortage, which has been grappling with every sector from technology to automotive for about two years, has affected many companies including Samsung, Apple and Tesla. In May, a total closure decision was made in Vietnam, where COVID-19 exploded. This situation caused Samsung, which produces a significant part of the phones in its factory in Vietnam, to have a supply problem.

The South Korean technology giant’s sales figures for last year have emerged. According to the information shared by The Elec, Samsung produced 238.88 million phones in 2021 alone. With the support of production partners such as Wintech and Huaqin, this number has increased by 60 million to nearly 300 million. However, it was understood that the number of phones produced by the company was not directly proportional to the sales figures.

Samsung sold 200 million phones last year

The technology giant sold a total of 200 million smartphones last year. The Galaxy S21 series, introduced in January 2021, made up only 20 million of this number. However, according to analysts, this data did not make Samsung happy at all. Because the company was aiming to sell a total of 300 million phones in 2021.

On the other hand, sources said, “Samsung could have sold the Galaxy S21 series better if it had not experienced production problems in Vietnam.” In addition, according to analysts, who reported that Samsung focused on the sales of the Galaxy A and Galaxy M series in 2021, the company did not lower its 2022 targets.

According to the information shared by The Elec, Samsung aims to produce 334 million smartphones in 2022. It is reported that 285 million of this will be produced directly by the company, while the rest will be produced together with business partners such as Wintech and Huaqin. Samsung shipped 296 million phones in 2019. If all goes well, it could reach higher figures in 2022.
