Although it became the focus of great criticism with its release, Diablo Immortal earned Blizzard approximately $ 24 million in two weeks. A report shared by analytics firm GameDev Reports states that the free-to-play game was downloaded approximately 8.5 million times in the same time period, with 26 percent of downloads originating from the United States. Most of Blizzard’s revenue from Diablo Immortal also came from America. To date, US players have accounted for about 43 percent of all winnings for the game.
If we want to point out the extent of Immortal’s early financial success by comparison, Hearthstone, the only other mobile game Blizzard is currently releasing, made about $5 million in May. Despite the high response to Immortal’s monetization systems, it’s clear that probably no one expected the game to fail. Instead, it seems that the biggest concern for many fans is that due to the success of Immortal, Blizzard will turn this undesirable model into monetization in their future games.
Fortunately, for now, this fear seems unfounded. Diablo brand general manager Rod Fergusson recently said that Diablo IV will have a different monetization system than Immortal.
