The survey by Morning Consult revealed citizens’ opinions on whether they support their government.

Working towards a better understanding of some of the innovative use cases, identification of business models, technological, legal and regulatory aspects that can be supported by the issuance of a CBDC. Many countries are also actively working on CBDC programs. However, the opinion of the citizens on this issue is not clear.

CBDC Looks Attractive for Developing Countries

According to the survey published by the global decision intelligence company Morning Consult, citizens are confused about the issue of the central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Only a quarter of Australians support the issuance of a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Only 5 percent of Australians surveyed “strongly” support such an initiative. The lowest CBDC support is given in Japan. Only 3 percent of citizens approve of this initiative.

Support for CBDC issuance appears to be significantly higher in emerging markets. For example, 61 percent of Colombians want their government to issue a CBDC.

The resulting inequality may be due to the limited access of people in developing countries to traditional banking services. That’s why many see CBDCs as a tool to encourage financial inclusion.
