NVIDIA, one of the world’s most popular graphics card manufacturers, made a special work with concept designer and illustrator Yangtian Li, who works for leading games such as Call of Duty, Magic: the Gathering and Vainglory. Li, who prepared designs with computers using GeForce RTX GPUs for the NVIDIA Studio series, managed to impress the audience. The concept designer also explained how he felt the difference of NVIDIA in his work.
Concepts designed in Adobe Photoshop include character portraits of “graceful and strong women.” Yangtian Li also included the stories of the women in these portraits in his work with NVIDIA. If you wish, without further ado, let’s take a look at those designs prepared with the help of NVIDIA GeForce RTX series GPUs and the stories of the women in the designs.
Snake Witch
*Snake Witch (Snake Witch)-Yangtian Li
Snake Witch, Li’s a product of his fascination with black magic, the “Gu”, where tribesmen’s witch doctors collect poisonous creatures and use them to make poisons and practice the dark arts. Li said, “I always thought stories were fascinating, so I wanted to make a design like this. Snakes appeal to me and help create some interesting compositions.”
After working primarily in 2D, Li moves to 3D to support the concept process. Having a high-end GPU really helps speed up the process when it comes to using Blender, Zbrush, and the like.” He continues, saying that these accelerations were especially noticeable with GPU-accelerated rendering in Blender Cycles 3.0, resulting in more than 5x faster results with a GeForce RTX laptop GPU compared to a MacBook Pro M1 Max or CPU. )
Snake Witch’s character drawing was in a good spot, while Li used the Liquify filter to deftly design her subject’s facial features. Liquify allows artists to explore creative ideas and make complex adjustments in seconds in Adobe Photoshop.
Li uses adaptation layers during the coloring phase of his process and creates non-destructive formatting while trying to achieve the right color tone. If he is not satisfied with a format, Li can delete it without destroying the original image. By using the Opacity feature to block light from the right of the image, Li adjusts the lighting and adds a bit of realism.
