The era of drone delivery has begun on Amazon
Reportedly, the maximum payload for Prime Air will be limited to 5lb (2.2kg). Amazon states that 85% of shipments are under this weight. Prime Air, currently in service in Lockeford California and College Station Texas, will provide an estimated delivery time and tracking information for orders, ensuring the package is delivered safely to users’ backyards.
As part of its Prime Air service, Amazon uses a hexagonal MK27-2 autonomous delivery drone with six propellers. Equipped with special algorithms against obstacles such as power lines and chimneys, this aircraft is watched live by Amazon employees during the delivery process.
In a statement, Amazon Air spokesperson Natalie Banke said, “Our goal is to get our drones safely into the sky. We will gradually expand deliveries to more customers over time.” However, it is not yet known in which regions the new service will be available in the future.
