Meta decided to close the Messenger Lite application, which it first opened in 2016. Developed for entry-level and older Android phones, this version offered the basic features of the messaging app. Support for Messenger Lite, which takes up much less storage space, ends in September.

Messenger Lite will be shut down in September

Messenger Lite was launched nearly 7 years ago as a lightweight messaging app for older Android phones with limited storage and performance power. It took less space compared to the standard app and allowed users to chat.

Among the features of the app it had basic messaging capabilities such as message, photo sharing and group chats. Over time, it became available for all phones, maintaining its popularity among users for its simplicity and performance.

However, Meta is deprecating the Lite app considering the performance of today’s smartphones. Announcing that it will close the application on September 18, the company also shared a message directing users to Messenger.

The social media giant stated that the transition will be made gradually. Accordingly, all conversations in Lite will also be accessible in the Messenger application.

Among the main reasons for the cancellation of the application are the decreased usage of Lite and the increasing power of new smartphones. Now most phones can run the Messenger app without any problems. This eliminates the need for a lightweight app.

However, it should be noted that Facebook Lite and Instagram Lite are still accessible from the Play Store. So what do you think about this subject? Do not forget to share your views with us in the comments section!
