Elon Musk’s efforts to rebrand Twitter are in full swing. In a series of late-night tweets on Saturday, Musk shared that the company’s famous bird logo and name will soon disappear. It looks like the company will simply live off as “X”.

“We will soon say goodbye to the twitter brand and slowly all the birds,” Musk tweeted on Saturday night, later adding, “It should have been done a long time ago, sorry it took so long.”

Later that night, employees were reportedly emailed about the change. According to Platformer’s Zoe Schiffer, Musk sent staff an email stating that the company would be X and the note was “the last email he’ll send from a Twitter email address.”

Elon Musk’s “X love”

It has long been known that Musk prefers the “X” brand. The banking startup he co-founded in 1999 is called x.com, and the recently announced AI startup is called xAI. Musk also talked about how X will help Twitter become the “everything app.”

Musk’s last move was to redirect x.com to Twitter.

Officially abandoning the Twitter brand could be a risky move for Musk. The company is currently facing an advertiser migration that has resulted in it losing more than half of its ad revenue. Rebranding can affect advertisers even worse. At the same time, Musk may think that a new name and identity will mean that the company completely cuts ties with its former leadership and decisions made under them.
