Yes, Death Stranding came out in 2019 and told us how important “shipping” is. Of course, that wasn’t exactly the point, but some people insisted on this and the game world was divided into two. We will touch on the subject of the game a little later, but interestingly, it didn’t take us long to realize that Hideo Kojima “wanted to tell”. The COVID-19 epidemic, which broke out at the end of 2019 and put a comma in the history of humanity, changed our lives in an instant. Even though this chaotic order, which we call the “new normal”, has started to “normalize” a little now, our life will not be the same as before. Because the dynamics of life have changed, the cards have been dealt from the beginning and the new order is now based on this. On the other hand, I guess this epidemic taught me to appreciate a little. Of course, a human being is a being who is not very good at taking lessons. Anyway, maybe we can go deeper into this subject, but that’s not our topic right now. Our topic is about Kojima’s new game of Death Stranding, which is almost a prophecy for the upcoming pandemic.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, of course, is not a new game in itself. A bundle of add-ons coming to the main game. We’ll talk about those, but first let’s take a look at the plot of Death Stranding.

I guess there is no one among us who has not thought about purgatory. The reality of death, the place called “purgatory”, where a light is followed according to the narratives, and which is ultimately dropped, takes place in the minds and hearts of many of us as a very strong “fact” among the concepts of heaven and hell. In the Death Stranding universe, this area appears before us as the “coast”. Everyone has a shore, a “Death Shore”. The Death Edge is dragging our civilization into a great collapse, as a substance called Chiralium, which is already in the lower layers of our world, reaches great density and opens the door to our world as a result of the explosions that occur at the end, it causes the extinction of most of humanity and the lost souls wandering around, aka. It leads to the emergence of KVs.

Not only that.

Everyone alive now is a potential KV, Shore Shore. Since the deceased cannot pass to the other side, it enters the process of necrosis after death and becomes KV. But if he is not cremated within 48 hours of his death. . . Burning is another event. This time, the chiral density increases and “Time Destruction” takes place. The Time Demolition event, which accelerates the flow of time for the objects and organisms it touches with the rain, roughly speaking, refutes everything it touches. Apart from the aging rains with the increase in chiral density, the DMs that occur with the rains have also become the biggest fear for people, as a result of these events, humanity – or whatever is left now – becomes a completely isolated society. Humanity is falling apart. Nothing from America. All that remains is the “apocalypse” trying to live alone in fallen cities and bunkers. And Bridges. Sam Porter Bridges, our main character, is one of the union workers who want to establish UCA, the United Cities of America, and to keep civilization alive by connecting cities with Q-pid.

Sam, one of these heroic carriers, who is assigned to meet the needs of people so that they can hold on to life, to connect the cities to each other, and thus to weave the webs of the re-known civilization, has a special situation: he is the “Other”. The name “Otherci” given to people who are sensitive to chilium, which emerged with the explosion in time, tells us that they can feel the KV’s in the environment.

The story and Kojima actually tell us more. With these men, called “cargo drivers”, what is actually carried is a glimmer of hope rather than cargo; Necrosis and the Ancient Egyptians’ view of life and death, who believed that humans are composed of Ha and Ka, that is, body and soul; The sense of belonging we need in order to live with Bag Babies; how we became addicted to oxytocin with social media and much more. . .

In fact, as he explained these through the whales that washed ashore with ecological concern, the first tool invented by man with the mirror he held to our past was the stick, and we kept the bad things away with it; He also defines Death Stranding by expressing that the second one is a rope and that we try to keep good things close with it. Maybe Death Stranding is not a new genre, but the story line, together with the metaphors Kojima wanted to express and made us think, was a very valuable production. It may not be a classic in terms of play, but what it points out with its metaphorical narrative style is of great importance.

Yes, this is how Death Stranding appeared before us, and yes, those who call this game “shipping simulation” are right in a way. Because as Sam Porter Bridges, we were constantly carrying something to someone throughout the game, we were trying to defend our cargo, we were trying to deliver the cargo to the desired place without saying mountain – hill – slope – creek. As the game progressed, we were building bridges with other players or starting to build highways connecting cities to be able to travel faster with the vehicles we started using, and this way we made things a little easier. But still, we had to make a great effort to carry that cargo, it is not necessary anymore.

It’s not hard to say that Kojima took a slightly cynical approach to Director’s Cut. Or in other words, he wanted to lighten the burden of new players. Because many new equipment has been added to the game. For example, we were able to develop robots in the later parts of the game and help them with the delivery. In Director’s Cut, we can ride directly on his back. Well, yes, we’re taking that road again, but we don’t have to keep our balance by using the Dualsense’s R2 and L2 keys constantly on bumpy roads.

Not only that. More new equipment is available. For example, jump ramps, for example catapults. Yes, you can install catapults in the new game. Thus, you can put your cargo on the catapult and throw it to the other shore and get rid of the “trouble” of transportation. Oh, well, can you throw yourself to the other side with the catapult? Kojima said “no more” to this much now.

The jump ramps added to the game help you to jump over distances that you cannot bridge, on the other hand, we now have a new bridge called Chiral Bridge. Apart from these, there are a number of other innovations. These include weapons.

New side missions have also been added to Death Stranding Director’s Cut. This means you will carry more cargo. But this job is no longer as difficult as it used to be. In addition to these, Kojima has added areas that will make the game a little more fun this time. One of them is the racetrack. Yes, the idea of racing in such a powerful game with such an atmosphere does not sound bad at all. Moreover, we can say that you will have a lot of fun – especially if you like racing games. We spent a lot of time on this track while playing the game. But now let’s get to the technology side of things.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is a production exclusive to PlayStation 5 and takes advantage of all the blessings of PS5. You’ll love how DualSense handles haptic controls. This technology is ingrained into every part of the game, from walking on the road to sitting on the bike, to your body reactions while listening to something. Also, the graphics look amazing. The game’s already photorealistic graphics have taken it to a whole other level thanks to the PlayStation 5 and often make you find yourself staring at the screen. They’re able to deliver upscaled 4K images consistently at 60fps, and the fluidity is extreme. And the music, again, took it away. . .

Result

To sum up, Death Stranding Director’s Cut is the game for you if you’ve finished the first game, completed all the missions and received the Platinum trophy, but still want to keep navigating this universe. We can also say that it has become more fun with new add-ons. If you’ve never played before, it’s a great opportunity. Because it is a long-term entertainment opportunity with its subject, innovative perspective, art direction, visuals, music and technology of PlayStation 5.
