At today’s hearing, prosecutors reported that they had spoken to a federal judge to find a solution that would ensure Morgan would not be prosecuted.

Morgan, one of the names accused of laundering stolen funds from Bitfinex, is likely to come to a settlement without the need for a civil lawsuit.

At the virtual hearing, prosecutors told US District Court Magistrate Robin Meriweather that they were discussing a possible settlement with Heather Morgan’s attorneys.

Morgan, along with his wife Ilya Lichtenstein, is accused of laundering money stolen from Bitfinex. The present value of the assets is $5 billion.

Although prosecutors accuse both Morgan and Lichtenstein of money laundering, there is less direct evidence linking Morgan to the crime.

The private keys to the wallet containing $3.6 billion in stolen funds, seized by federal agents earlier this month, were found in Lichtenstein’s cloud account.

Morgan and Lichtenstein were arrested at their New York apartment on February 8. Although Lichtenstein was denied bail, Morgan was released on bail and is currently under house arrest.
