READING NOW DDR6 memory good news from Samsung!

JEDEC, the standardization organization on the semiconductor side, said in 2017 that DDR5 memory could be released in 2018. This technology, which was constantly delayed due to the pandemic and various reasons, only appeared with Intel’s 12th generation processors towards the end of 2021. However, while these products have not yet taken their place on the shelves, Samsung announced that its work on DDR6 RAM technology has accelerated.

Samsung may introduce DDR6 memory sooner than expected

Samsung said that the development of the DDR6 standard has begun and will be supported by JEDEC, which includes the world’s largest computer companies and has more than 300 members. In addition, the company provided information on many next-generation memory standards, including DDR6, as well as GDDR6+, GDDR7 and HBM3, at the 2021 tech day event.

According to the announced data, it is planned to complete the development of memory with DDR6 standard by 2024. However, considering the latency and current supply issues with DDR5s, it is expected to be available in late 2025 or the first quarter of 2026.

DDR6 memory will reach 4 times faster than DDR4!

The most striking feature of DDR6 memory is that it increases the data transfer rates by 4 times compared to DDR4 and by 2 times compared to DDR5, which has just entered the market. Thus, while it can reach 17 thousand Mbps in overclocked modules, it will be able to reach speeds of approximately 12 thousand 800 Mbps in JEDEC modules.

Although the working principle with GDDR memory technology is similar, DDR6 memory, which is a completely different unit, stands out compared to its predecessors, especially with its compatibility with graphics cards. Moreover, while standard DDR5s offer support up to 64GB, the new technology is expected to offer a nearly 2-fold increase in this area.

GDDR6+ technology is also at hand!

According to the leaked information, Samsung will make the GDDR6+ technology available before the event where GDDR7 will be introduced. It is said that this technology will reach speeds of up to 24 Gbps. In other words, it will allow future 256-bit GPUs to have a bandwidth of up to 768 GB. It is also said that GPUs with 320, 352 and 384-bit bus layouts will achieve over 1TB of bandwidth.

On the other hand, it will be able to support transfer rates of GDDR7 technology up to 32 Gbps. It is also said that Samsung will place the real-time error protection feature on these memories as standard. However, GDDR7 memory will theoretically be able to provide speeds of up to 1.5TB via a 384-bit bus interface and up to 2TB via a 512-bit system.
