Sony Honda Mobility will start car sales in 2026
The roadmap of Sony Honda Mobility, which accelerates the production of electric cars, has been announced. Yasuhide Mizunoi, the head of the company, said that they will start taking pre-orders in 2025 and make their first sales in 2026. Additionally, the USA was chosen as the first sales location. The company will also start sales in Japan within the same year.
Yasuhide Mizunoi made the following statements on the subject;
As Sony Honda Mobility, we plan for the first delivery to be in North America in the spring of 2026. We have decided to start delivery in Japan in the second half of 2026. We will focus on cars as not only a physical means of transportation, but also a recreational and emotional space.
The new company wants to be the best in the industry, leveraging Sony and Honda’s expertise in their field. Honda’s current environmental and safety technologies, mobility studies, vehicle production technology and after-sales service expertise will be utilized. On the Sony side, it is aimed to benefit from next-generation mobility services that are compatible with imaging, sensing, telecommunications, network and entertainment technologies, users and the environment.
Sony has been giving signals that it will enter the automotive world before. So much so that the company showcased its electric concept cars at CES 2020 and 2022. Production of the new company will take place at one of Honda’s 12 facilities in the United States. However, no details about the production volume were shared.
