As you know, Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp have been inaccessible since the evening of 4 October. While the authorities are trying to solve the problem, many allegations about the origin of the problem are made. Now we will talk about a rather serious situation that has arisen. However, we do not know for now how much this is related to the crashes of the sites.
According to the newly revealed information, a post was shared on a hacker forum site stating that the data of 1.5 billion Facebook users was compromised. This post was made at the end of September. Now, according to what is written on the site, this data is for sale.
Personal data of 1.5 billion Facebook users is up for sale:
According to the post on the forum shared on September 22, Facebook, which already has 2.89 billion users, has been exposed to a major leak. The hacker claimed to hold data of many types from 1.5 billion Facebook accounts. Such a massive data theft is easily recorded as the biggest Facebook data leak in history. The personal data allegedly seized is as follows:
- Name, surname
- Email address
- Location
- Gender
- Phone number
- Username
Potential buyers of hacker-sold data, fraudulent advertisers and cybercriminals. These people have the option to either collect the user data of 1.5 billion people or to receive a certain amount of user data. The hacker sells the data of 1 million users for 5 thousand dollars. The sample data presented indicates that the data is not a duplicate and is real.
The 1.5 billion leaks are unrelated to the 500 million leaks last year:
Last year, there was a Facebook leak with data from Turkey, again for the purpose of selling. A hacker stole the data of 500 million Facebook users and sold all the data for 30 thousand dollars. Again, this leak, which obtained e-mail, age, address and many similar information, apparently does not coincide with the leak we are talking about now. In other words, the data in the new hacker advertisement is not already stolen information.
