Heavy snowfall, which is expected to be effective in Istanbul for a while, took place the other day. Until the past day, people were sharing on their social media that the snowfall warnings were in vain and that such snow would not fall.
However, the snowfall, which increased its intensity the other day in Istanbul, almost took over the city. On the Anatolian side, the roads between Ümraniye, Kadıköy and Üsküdar were blocked by snow and traffic came to a standstill. The situation on the European side was not much different
Warnings started from last week
Warnings of heavy snowfall in Istanbul actually started last week. It was said that the heaviest snowfall in Istanbul since 1987 would come in March. According to rumors, it was expected that up to 12 kilograms of snow per square meter would fall on Sunday, that is, today. In fact, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and the Istanbul Governor’s Office suspended the schools in cooperation with this heavy rain as a precaution.
As a matter of fact, it did happen. Many parts of Istanbul suddenly turned white with heavy snow that started at midnight. With the falling fog, the visibility range has also decreased a lot. Currently, most of the roads in Istanbul have been opened in a way that will not cause traffic problems with the works that started at night. The only thing left to Istanbulites is to enjoy the snow.
The snowfall in Istanbul was shared widely on social media
Of course, snowfall and freezing temperatures continue to dominate all over the country, but as you know, Istanbul has not been a city with much snow in the past years. For this reason, the snow that fell a month ago and the snow that fell the previous day became the focus of attention. Let’s watch Istanbul clad in white.
