WhatsApp brings together all payments under the Meta umbrella under the Novi brand after Facebook’s parent company changed its name to Meta. In a series of tweets, Novi president David Marcus announced that all “payments and financial services products” will merge under this brand. This means that Meta payments can now be made with cryptocurrencies.
Marcus also claimed that Novi has processed more than $100 billion in payments across its various products in the last 12 months and will look forward to working to empower everyone everywhere in the global financial system to accelerate financial inclusion and economic development.
Meanwhile, XDA Developers reported that some new code has been detected in the APK file of the next version of WhatsApp. Accordingly, an authentication process will be required to use the payment option of WhatsApp.
Meta-owned Novi digital wallet uses digital currencies to simplify global money transfers. Currently available in both the United States and Guatemala, the service uses the Pax Dollar, a cryptocurrency that is valued at one-to-one with the US dollar.
