AMD buys Nod.ai for artificial intelligence
Nvidia has gained a strong advantage in the artificial intelligence chip market through its work for more than a decade, the software it produces, and its software developer ecosystem. AMD, on the other hand, has been a bit of a latecomer in this area, but has now pledged to invest in and create a unified collection of software to power the various chips the company produces. AMD president Victor Peng stated that they are currently implementing this strategy with both internal investments and external acquisitions.
The acquisition of Nod.ai fits into this strategy because Nod.ai’s technology will enable companies to more easily use AI models tuned for AMD’s chips. Nod.ai sells its technology to major data center operators, among other customers. On the other hand, Nod.ai was recently valued at $ 36.5 million, but AMD did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition.
However, AMD also laid the foundations of its artificial intelligence unit, which will host the acquisition of Nod.ai earlier this year. This group employs approximately 1,500 engineers, the majority of whom are software-related, and AMD plans to continue expanding the team by hiring 300 people this year and more in 2024. By completing this acquisition, AMD will have an internal platform that rivals Nvidia CUDA, SHARK. Unlike the green team, the red team will offer the platform on open source.
Founded in 2013, Nod.ai develops a software ecosystem of tools, libraries, and models for developers, supporting Ryzen AI chips for consumer PCs and AMD’s silicon, including EPYC CPUs, Radeon GPUs, and Versal processors for the data center. accelerated the deployment of artificial intelligence solutions for
