Final Fantasy (FF) series has been in development for a long time, and innovations are added with each game. They were previously turn-based role-playing games. With FF 15, the turn-based combat system has been replaced by real-time combat. A semi-turn-based combat system was tried with FF 7 Remake and many players liked this system. The development processes of Final Fantasy games can sometimes be interrupted, however, like every developer team, Square Enix handles the situation.
Final Fantasy 16 development extended until Spring 2022
No official release date has been announced for Final Fantasy 16 yet. Fans previously claimed that the game will be released on June 16, 2022. However, Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy 16, stated on Twitter that the development process of FF 16 will take longer. If we look at the postponement news, it is stated that the official release date of the game will be the end of 2022 or the Spring period of 2023.
Yoshida’s statement is included in the image shared by the official account of Final Fantasy XVI on Twitter. The explanation is as follows:
“Greetings to everyone. Last time we spoke, I promised to know more about Final Fantasy 16 in 2021. However, I regret to inform you that I cannot keep this promise as complications arise from the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, the development process of the game was extended by half a year. Final Fantasy 16, the latest addition to the Final Fantasy series developed for PlayStation 5, has gathered a sizable team of talented creators from around the world. But to offset the effects of Covid-19, we have had to decentralize this workforce by allowing staff to work from home. This has unfortunately blocked communication with the Tokyo office, which has resulted in delays (or cancellations in extreme cases) in the deliveries of our outsourcing partners“
One of the last things Final Fantasy fans want to hear is the game’s development being delayed. Still, Yoshida stated that many problems with the game were left behind in 2021 and an easier development process awaits them.
