Nothing announced the next phase of their beta program via a community post. The announcement includes the release of the first open beta of Nothing OS 2.5 for the Nothing Phone 2. As we know, this update will be based on Android 14. The update includes a number of new features and improvements, as well as a special preview of Android 14.
Nothing OS 2.5 officially comes with Android 14
As the company did with Android 13 and promised earlier this year when Google started the Android 14 Beta Program, Nothing has officially announced that OS 2.5 Beta is ready for public testing. This announcement follows the Developer Preview for Nothing Phone 1 that launched in May.
This beta release introduces Android 14 to Nothing Phone 2 owners who don’t mind testing the software and reporting bugs, even if it means encountering some potential issues with user experience or functionality. Since Nothing OS is a proprietary version of Android exclusive to Nothing phones, the features and improvements included in this update are both specific to Nothing and general to the latest Android operating system.
What does the update offer?
- Updated the widget library interface so Nothing widgets look clearer.
- A new photos widget has arrived, allowing you to display your favorite photos on both your Home Screen and Lock Screen.
- New screenshot editor and menu have arrived, allowing for more advanced editing features and quick deletions.
- Updated the design of the back movement to better suit Nothing’s style.
- Added option to hide app icons on Home Screen and app drawer.
- Double-pressing the power button to quickly access a selected feature is now customizable.
- With the updated volume control interface, it has become possible to adjust the ringtone and notification sound levels separately.
- Added new solid color wallpapers for a cleaner Home Screen look.
Additionally, since this is beta software and things can definitely go wrong, the company has also provided instructions on how to roll back to the previous version. However, it is worth remembering that a rollback will result in your phone being reset to factory settings, which will result in data loss.
