READING NOW Countdown for Nintendo Switch 2: Its processor has been announced!

Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, is one of the best-selling game consoles in history, selling more than 129 million units. During this period, the Switch, whose OLED and Lite version was on sale, began to experience serious problems in new games such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom due to its approximately 7-year-old hardware. That’s why we’ve been seeing news about Nintendo Switch 2 for a while now. A recent new report revealed critical details about the processor of the upcoming handheld console.

Tegra T239 claim for Nintendo Switch 2 processor is in vain

RedGamingTech, known for its leaks in the industry, has revealed new details about the processor of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Accordingly, the handheld console will be powered by a MediaTek processor hosting 2x Cortex-A4, 2x Cortex-A720 and 4x Cortex-A520 cores.

As it is known, there were previous claims that the processor to be used in the console would be Nvidia Tegra T239 “Drake”. However, the common point of the latest reports is that the model will offer a gaming performance close to Xbox Series S and PlayStation 5. This does not seem to be possible with the approximately 6-year-old T239, which debuted in 2018 as part of the Tegra Orin processor family.

The leak also claims that the GPU on the console could feature 12 to 16 stream multiprocessors (SMs) based on the Ada Lovelace microarchitecture. In addition to the console’s powerful hardware, it is also said that it will have 12 to 16 GB of RAM and backward compatibility with Tegra X1.

Nintendo will follow a similar path to the previous model with the Switch 2 console. Because recent reports claim that the model will come with an LCD panel, contrary to users’ OLED expectations. If the claims are true, it is highly likely that we will see the OLED version a few years after the product is released.
