The video game industry has developed further in the last two years, especially with the COVID-19 epidemic, which has affected the whole world. Broadcasting has become as common as playing games. Today, many players have started to make money by broadcasting on social media platforms. Twitch, the most preferred platform for broadcasting, has come to the fore with the allegations of corruption by publishers in recent weeks.
The distrust that started against Twitch after the allegations seems to have caused the transition to alternative broadcast channels. Facebook Gaming was founded in 2018, but after the recent crises in Twitch, there has been a serious increase in the number of views and broadcasts. So, while Twitch and Youtube Gaming are so common, can Facebook Gaming succeed in this sector or replace Twitch? Let’s examine it with the analysis report published by Stream Hatchet.
Facebook Gaming has grown rapidly
Software maker Streamlabs and data analytics company Stream Hatchet have released a detailed report of viewing and streaming data from Twitch, Youtube Gaming and Facebook Gaming in the third quarter of 2021. The report revealed that the total number of views for Facebook Gaming is higher than the total number of views for YouTube Gaming.
According to the report, 1.29 billion hours of live content was watched on Facebook Gaming, while 1.13 billion hours were watched on YouTube Gaming. Twitch, on the other hand, continues to maintain its first place among the platforms, although it has fallen from 6.51 billion hours to 5.79 billion hours of viewing.
When the number of content created was examined, the result was quite surprising. While being the first with 222.9 million hours of content created on Twitch; 17.1 million hours of content were produced in Facebook Gaming and 8.4 million hours in YouTube Gaming. With these data, it was determined that Facebook Gaming has 13.8% of the viewership rate and 6.9% of the market share among the three giant companies.
Will Facebook Gaming replace Twitch?
The reasons such as Twitch’s restrictions on publishers and lack of control, especially recently, seem to have led to the preference of Facebook Gaming, which is considered to offer better conditions to its publishers for the time being.
Although Twitch is the company with the largest share in the market with today’s data, when the rapid change in the last months is examined, it is not possible to ignore the fact that Facebook Gaming is also prominent in the sector and is developing rapidly. However, we can easily say that Facebook Gaming will not replace Twitch in a short time.
