Sweden-based CorPower Ocean introduced its first commercial-scale Wave Energy Converter (WEC) CorPower C4 device. The company will position its new products developed within the scope of the HiWave-5 project in the ocean in Portugal this year.

Commercial production will be started by 2025

Aiming to bring wave energy to a position where it can compete with wind and solar energy in renewable energy production, CorPower Ocean announced the latest developments in the HiWave-5 project it carries out in this context. .

The CorPower C4 device, which will form 10-20 MW CorPack clusters, will form part of a four-system wave array off the coast of Aguçadoura, Portugal, and It will enable the creation of one of the first grid-connected wave farms.

CorPower C4, each of which has a power rating of 300kW, can be produced quickly in large volumes with its strong and light structure. The company says CorPack wave farms will have minimal visual impact and can deliver up to three times more power per ocean footprint than a traditional offshore wind farm. The developers say CorPack allows combining the two technologies to create hybrid wind wave farms, thanks to its ‘plug and play’ compatibility with offshore wind infrastructure.

Sam Roch-Perks, CEO of Simply Blue Group, collaborating with Portuguese power company EDP and ENEL Green Power for CorPower Ocean’s HiWave-5 project: “We’re trying to harness the enormous power of the Atlantic Ocean, with floating offshore wind It is a truly exciting stage in the move towards hybrid wave-wind farms as we aim to combine wave technology and wave technology to generate zero-carbon electricity.” said.
