Pharmacies, where we supply the medicines prescribed by doctors, where we can find the most useful products for our skin care, and even where we can buy our daily personal care products, are a part of our lives.

So, why do pharmacies with so many useful products have photos of pharmacists next to Atatürk’s portrait?

In fact, this is a legal requirement.

There are many issues that the Ministry of Health wants pharmacies to comply with when licensing pharmacies. One of them is the presence of the pharmacist’s own photograph. Therefore, we can say that pharmacists who do not hang their own photos on the wall cannot get a license, that is, they cannot become a real “pharmacist”.

Although it is seen as “just a shop”, many rules must be followed in order to open a pharmacy. So much so that, according to the information on the official website of the Chamber of Pharmacists, the issues sought when issuing a pharmacy license are as follows:

  • Plate with the name of the pharmacy and the pharmacist
  • Door bell
  • Illuminated Watch Sign
  • Pharmacist’s photo (30 x 40)
  • Ataturk photo
  • Refrigerator (Only medicines and vaccines will be kept, there will be a thermometer for temperature control)
  • Prescription registration, drugs, psychotropic, personnel, inspection and trainee notebooks
  • narcotic drugs
  • psychotropic drugs
  • Emergency drugs, biological serum (Tetanus etc.)
  • major tariff
  • products
  • Scales
  • Mortar and other laboratory tools
  • Laboratory bench (Marble, glass or tile on top)
  • Sink and stream in the laboratory
  • Fire extinguisher – (Minimum 6 kg)
  • Steel safe for drugs
  • e-logo
  • White professional apron with pharmacist’s name and surname on the breast pocket
  • Temperature and humidity measuring instrument (Daily temperature and humidity records will be kept)
  • Pharmacopoeia

In addition, pharmacists must have thirty-four kinds of ready-made medicines in their pharmacies in order to open their shops.

adrenaline injection

In addition to these, they must also have five types of large-volume intravenous solutions.

Sodium Chloride solution

Finally, they need to have twelve types of medical supplies for emergency situations.

plaster bandage

After completing all these stages, once you have fulfilled the mandatory items for the sign, you can open your pharmacy.
