Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made a statement after the “2023 Evaluation Meeting”, where the tourism situation for the first half of the year was evaluated. Ersoy touched upon many issues during his statement. One of them was Airbnb and such rental applications.
The Minister stated that there is a study of the ministry about renting a daily house, which has become very popular in recent years, especially in the summer months.
Documentation will be required for the daily rented houses, and the renters will have to notify the people staying regularly.
Ersoy announced that by making a change in the legislation, a certificate certification requirement will be introduced for the houses rented for the day. It was also stated that those who rent these houses will have to obtain a document from the ministry and that they will have to regularly notify the people staying.
In addition, according to the statement, renters will also have to pay a tax on the income they get from day rentals. This tax will be deposited with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. The Minister of Culture and Tourism states that this way, equality of competition will be ensured. He adds that they are not against daily rentals, and that they adopt an approach like in other countries and want it to be done with documentation and in accordance with the legislation.
Although there is no information on when the new study will come into force, Ersoy stated that it will be implemented by the end of this year.
