Remember the 12-inch MacBook that Apple introduced in 2015? This laptop was the company’s attempt to breathe new life into the Mac lineup. Back then, the MacBook Air had huge bezels, but the 12-inch MacBook had everything a user could want in terms of aesthetics. It was thin, light, beautiful looking and had a great Retina display…
Unfortunately this computer had a few flaws. First it came with a terrible 480p camera, it had a weak Intel Celeron processor and only a single USB-C port. Although it experienced an overhaul in 2017, its production completely ceased in 2019.
And now claims are that a 12-inch model of the MacBook Air may be on the way. The new MacBook Air series is much more powerful than the Intel era, thanks to Apple silicon. Its screen is 13.3 inches. While rumors indicate that the company is about to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air, there has been talk of a 12-inch model as well.
In fact, last June, Bloomberg said that Apple plans to launch a 12-inch MacBook Air in late 2023 or early 2024. A week later, the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the opposite of this claim, saying that this product is “definitely not working on it”.
Now, there is a sketchy rumor posted on the Korean social network Naver by a user named “yeux1122”. This user is known for his Apple rumors, and at least half of his claims have so far come true.
Should Apple release a 12-inch MacBook Air?
In today’s line of Mac laptops, a 12-inch MacBook might only make sense if it’s going to sell for much cheaper than other Macs. Because the MacBook Air is already reasonably priced.
If the hardware specs match the MacBook Air lineup, and Apple takes the lead on price, a 12-inch MacBook Air running macOS could be of interest as the most portable option.
yeux1122 talks about a timeline targeting the second half of 2023. So we still have a long time to find out if we’ll see a 12-inch MacBook Air.
