New features continue to come to Twitter, whose name we still cannot get used to being changed to X. Within the scope of Elon Musk’s vision of making X an ‘everything application’, it has been announced that a feature that we are familiar with from communication applications will be added to the platform.
Video chat feature coming to Twitter (X)
X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, stated in a new interview that Elon Musk plans to bring many features and that video calling will be integrated into X (Twitter), which he describes as an “everything application”.
“Soon you will be able to video call anyone on the platform without giving your phone number,” Yaccarino said in the interview. Where almost all social media platforms offer a video calling feature, it makes sense for Twitter to finally get the feature. How much people adopt this feature, however, is a mystery.
X suffered major shocks after Elon Musk bought the platform for $44 billion in October. Thereupon, Yaccarino was appointed CEO in June to save the sinking ship. His job is actually much more than being a CEO.
Boss Musk gave Yaccarino all the tasks of transforming Twitter into an ‘everything app’, from turning it into an X. So this is a really heavy responsibility. However, with his performance so far, Yaccarino seems to be able to handle this burden.
In the interview, the CEO stated that changing Twitter’s name to X actually symbolizes getting rid of an outdated mindset and way of thinking.
According to Yaccarino, the video calling feature is just one of a ton of features that will be added to the platform. Other features will include the ability to make payments between users, friends, and creators on the platform, similar to China’s WeChat.
Transformed into X, Twitter has also recently launched a system that allows users to monetize their shared content. Now we can also see things like online shopping and banking inside X.
Of course, not everyone is happy with this. People who care about the principle of privacy think that the fact that a platform that keeps so much data about its individual users has so many features can cause great problems in case of a security breach.
