With a statement made in the past days, WhatsApp announced that it will also come to Android tablets. After a long wait, some Android beta testers started accessing the Companion App feature.

With the announcement made last month, we learned that there will be a version where Android users can access their existing accounts on other Android phones and tablets at the same time. Although there is no official release date for now, this new feature will be supported by all devices at some point. As a step in this process, some beta users have started testing the feature.

Beta users started testing the feature

The new feature will cover not only tablets but also different Android smartphones. So if you have two smartphones, you will be able to use the same WhatsApp account on two different devices. It’s pretty easy to check if you have access to the feature. If you see the “connect device” option under Settings, you can use your account on a second device.

When you start using your account on a new device, your chat history will be synced between the two devices. As the feature is currently in Beta, some features may not be available yet. For example, live location or tags may not be in sync.

It is currently possible to use the WhatsApp account on four different devices simultaneously. In other words, it is possible to catch up with the account on more than two Android smartphones. In addition, messages are encrypted end-to-end on all devices used. The feature is expected to be available to all users in the coming period. If you have an Android smartphone and are participating in beta tests, you can use the companion device feature by updating the application to the latest version.
