ColorOS 13 introduced: Here are the OPPO phones that will receive the Android 13 update

With over 500 million active users worldwide, ColorOS is one of the most widely used Android interfaces. The company introduced the new ColorOS version today.

ColorOS 13 features

ColorOS 13 uses the new lively and fluid design language (Aquamorphic Design). It comes with big changes in notification panel, widgets and multi-device linking and privacy protection, folder creation, privacy focused features. But the biggest change is the inclusion of OxygenOS features in ColorOS.

All Always on Display (AOD) styles on OnePlus phones for the last two years, including Bitmoji, Insight, Canvas, are now on OPPO phones. Including Spotify integration that lets you control music playback directly from the lock screen. Here are the innovations that come with ColorOS 13:

What’s new with ColorOS 13

The most noticeable change in ColorOS 13 is the new design language (OPPO calls it Aquamorphic Design). This is an enhanced version of the Infinite Design visual language that OPPO introduced with ColorOS 7 in 2019 and brings a more modern design that looks great on devices with QHD+ displays like the Find X5 Pro. It features a new font that makes it a little easier to read, higher-contrast icons, and a plain, tidy-looking card-wipe layout. The UI scales dynamically on foldable phones.

Always on Display styles

Bitmoji, Insight, and Canvas styles are available by default in ColorOS 13, and there’s new Spotify integration that lets you control music without ever leaving the lock screen. When you choose one of the always-on screen styles, the Spotify widget appears on the lock screen and you can see which song is playing and control the music playback directly from the widget. Spotify toolkit works with all AOD styles. The AOD settings feature a new Home section that draws attention to climate change.

The biggest change on the home screen is the folder size has been increased from 1×1 to 2×2. You can open an application within the folder without having to open the folder.

Notification panel renewed

The notification panel has been completely replaced in ColorOS 13. While Android 12 introduces a new notification panel, we haven’t seen the same in ColorOS 12, but ColorOS 13 is inspired by the Android 13 notification panel. Quick settings for WiFi and mobile internet are rectangular, while other quick settings are left unchanged. Notifications section looks exactly like Android 13.

ColorOS 13 comes with a special flower wallpaper (blossom wallpaper) that visually shows how much you use the phone during the day. You set a usage goal, the plant starts as a bud in the morning and blooms when you reach your usage limit. When you exceed the limit, the plant withers. What’s more appealing is that the color of the plant changes to reflect the application you’ve used most in the last hour.

Multi-link

Multi Connect is a useful feature that lets you connect your phone to your Windows computer. When you connect to a Windows PC, you can move files between devices, mirror the screen, send messages, view incoming notifications. This feature is limited to Windows.

Safe use for children

Kid Space includes a set of built-in tools that allow kids to use the phone safely. When the feature is turned on, the eye protection mode is automatically activated and the system uses the data from the ambient light sensor to remind children that they are using the phone in a bright environment. It also reminds children when they slouch in front of the screen or use the phone at very close range.

Security and privacy

ColorOS 13 brings all the standard features Google offers with Android 13, including automatic deletion of clipboard history, Nearby WiFi which ensures that apps don’t get your location information over the WiFi network, and built-in security measures against malware.

Private Safe protects sensitive documents and photos with biometric authentication and this data is kept securely in another domain. Auto Pixelate saves you the trouble of blurring and pixelating the areas you don’t want to show while sharing screenshots. Areas that should not be seen by everyone in the screenshot are automatically blurred with artificial intelligence. This feature also works on WhatsApp.

When will ColorOS 13 arrive?

OPPO plans to update ColorOS 13 to 35 smartphone models in more than 60 countries and regions this year. This is the biggest update plan in ColorOS history. Find X5 Pro and Find X5 will be the first models to receive the ColorOS 13 update. Then, from 2023, more than 20 devices will receive the ColorOS 13 update.
