While the effect of colors on human psychology has been known for a long time, research continues on how we can use this effect to our advantage. A recent study by French scientists has revealed a simple change that can be made to keep people’s morale up.
The research carried out by scientists from the University of Lille scientifically revealed that the city’s vibrant and green-focused colors make people happier and calmer. In the research carried out with 36 volunteers, the volunteers entered the virtual world shaped by scientists with virtual reality glasses.
In colorful cities, people are more curious and stimulated
While volunteers wandered around the world, scientists followed their physical condition. In the study, it was observed that when the volunteers saw green vegetation in an urban environment, their heart rate increased and they walked more slowly. In this setting, the volunteers were constantly looking around, instead of looking directly at one spot.
On the other hand, the fact that the city took on a more colorful structure besides the green vegetation improved the reaction of the volunteers. Volunteers were observed to be much more curious and aroused in these settings. New research, published in Frontiers in Virtual Reality, has reintroduced the proposal to color cities to keep people’s morale up.
