China, the world’s largest smartphone market, saw a huge drop in April sales. This situation directly affected Apple’s iPhone shipments. However, iPhone sales in China have increased by almost half compared to last year.
iPhone sales decline in the largest smartphone market
A new report has emerged, sent to Apple investors by JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee. The note, which deals with the smartphone sales figures of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technologies, revealed that Apple sales have fallen.
According to the note prepared by Samik Chatterjee, 1.7 million units were shipped to China in April. Although this figure may seem quite high, it should be noted that it is almost half of the country’s record sales of 3.1 million units. In addition, China’s total phone sales decreased by 26 percent and Apple’s by 16 percent.
In the report shared by the analyst, it was stated that March shipments decreased by 16 percent compared to the previous month. But let’s not ignore the fact that total smartphone sales increased by 27 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In addition to this data, it was stated that the amount of smartphones sold in China since the launch of the iPhone 13 series (October 2021) has reached 36.4 million. Although it is not known how much of this figure belongs to the iPhone, let us remind you that Apple is at the top of the Chinese market.
This isn’t the only sad development coming to Apple from the Asian country. Previously, increasing coronavirus cases in China made Apple’s business difficult. It was thought to sell more than 300 million iPhones at the beginning of the year, but the company will be able to produce 240 million iPhones.
