Climate and environmental activist Greta Thunberg, who was on the agenda for the first time outside of the climate issue with her attitude towards Andrew Tate on social media, was detained in Germany today. Thunberg was taken into custody because of an action she participated in.
Greta Thunberg was not the only person detained. German police detained Thunberg and other environmental activists who participated in the demonstration.
Thunberg’s action was aimed at preventing the destruction of the village for a coal mine:
Greta Thunberg and her more than 6,000 protesters opposed the expansion of the coal mine in the German village of Lützerath. The government and district administration had decided that the village of Lützerath should be cleared for mining.
Environmental activists, on the other hand, argued that Germany should not extract more lignite coal, but should now focus on renewable energy. In his actions, Thunberg described the decision to expand the mine as “betrayal to the generations of today and tomorrow.”
It was announced that Thunberg did not show any resistance while being detained.
Thunberg’s detention will not be long:
A spokesperson for the Aachen police said: “There is no point in detaining them for days. They’re released after a few hours or right away.” used the phrases.
