Twitch, the world’s most popular live streaming platform, continues to take steps in security. The platform has now announced that a feature called “content classification tags” has arrived.

This feature was originally announced for the first time in the past months. It was detailed yesterday in a blog post shared from the official site. The new tags are now descriptive, allowing publishers to be more specific about what viewers can see in their content.

Publishers will be warned when they don’t use the right tags

According to Twitch’s descriptions, content classification tags are a tool that includes more specific tags that can be added or removed at any time before or during the broadcast. With this feature, which replaces the adult content notification, broadcasters can now mark whether their broadcasts have the following features:

  • Adult game
  • sexual themes
  • Use of drugs, harmful substances and excessive tobacco
  • Depictions of violence, blood, brutality
  • Excessive slang and profanity
  • Gambling

The platform also emphasizes that it does not make any changes to its community policies. What comes with it are the rules that certain types of allowed content must be tagged. Let’s point out that if the correct content tag is not used, the publisher will be notified via e-mail and the correct tag will be added to the post.

Twitch says it won’t be suspending streamers who don’t tag correctly. But he adds that if the warnings are too much, channels can be locked for a few days or even weeks. Viewers will also be able to complain about the broadcast if they think the right tag isn’t being used.

Publishers will be able to use the new tags through the “Edit broadcast information” section in the “Broadcast Manager”.
