Wednesday, which aired on Netflix on November 23, soon became the second most watched series on Netflix in 2022. The series, in which Tim Burton sat in the director’s chair and the Addams family moved to the present, came to the fore with news that worried Netflix users today.
According to the information shared by The Independent, Wednesday’s second season, which has not been officially announced, may not be broadcast on Netflix. Because Netflix could be greatly affected by Amazon’s acquisition of Metro Goldwyn Mayer.
Metro Goldwyn Mayer was officially acquired by Amazon:
Amazon’s $8.5 billion purchase of Metro Goldwyn Mayer was officially completed in March 2022. With this purchase, the rights of all productions under Metro Goldwyn Mayer naturally passed to Amazon.
One of these productions was Netflix’s Wednesday, for which it acquired the rights from MGM. Therefore, the door to Netflix for Wednesday’s second season began to blur. However, this uncertainty seems to have been resolved in the opposite direction of the claims.
A statement came from the Netflix representative:
Speaking to MailOnline, a Netflix spokesperson shared that Amazon’s acquisition of MGM will not affect existing rights deals. An explanation that Amazon will not be too harsh on this issue was also presented by Amazon recently.
According to information shared by Deadline in March, Amazon has no plans to make all MGM content exclusive to Prime Video.
