READING NOW Claim: Apple Suspends Production of M2 Chips at the Beginning of 2023

Apple introduced the M2 chips, the new member of the M series, in June 2022. This processor attracted attention by taking the performance and features of the M1 further with 18% faster GPU, 35% more powerful GPU and many more features. The chip appeared on devices such as the MacBook, iPad, and Mac Mini.

Today, an important claim has been made about these chips of the company. According to a report shared by Korea-based The Elec and based on sources close to the subject, Apple stopped production of M2 chips for two months at the beginning of 2023.

Allegedly, the reason for the production stoppage is the decrease in Mac and MacBook sales.

The report claims that Apple stopped M2 production in January and February and resumed it in March. The reason for this is said to be low demand for Mac and MacBook models. It is also among the information that although it continued in March, the production was halved compared to the same period of the previous year.

Of course, it should be emphasized again that this is purely an allegation. Apple had difficulties in keeping its products on the shelves while experiencing supply problems in December; however, the M2 continued its production. The alleged pause may have occurred at a time when the company was holding extra chips for the short term.

On the other hand, we know that there is a general decline in the PC market. Company CEO Tim Cook admitted that they are facing challenges in the PC market during the first quarter 2023 earnings call last month; however, he stated that thanks to silicon chips, they had a competitive advantage and were in a good position.
