Offering a light and comfortable use with the ChromeOS operating system, Google draws attention with its investments in the operating system for many years. ChromeOS, which is also used outside of Google with its open source version, has even been turned into a business model by NeverWare. NeverWare, which wants to run old computers with ChromeOS with the CloudReady application, was acquired by Google in the past years. Launching the ChromeOS Flex project with the NeverWare team, Google is taking big steps in the project.
ChromeOS Flex can be installed on older Macs and PCs
The ChromeOS Flex project, which started in early 2022, is now generally available. Offering official support on more than 400 devices, Flex can be loaded onto any device by being loaded onto a USB memory stick. In addition, the operating system can be tested via USB before it is installed, like some Linux systems. ChromeOS Flex, which has simple system requirements, unfortunately does not support ARM processors.
Google states that even if your device is not officially supported, it may work with very minor problems. With Flex’s general availability, NeverWare’s CloudReady implementation will be shut down in the coming weeks. Details of ChromeOS Flex can be found here.
