It’s not just NASA that conducts Mars exploration. China’s Tienwen-1 spacecraft set off in July 2020 and reached Mars after 7 months. China, which left its reconnaissance vehicle Zhurong on the surface of Mars on May 22, thus began to actively search for the Red Planet. Named after the Chinese Fire God Zhurong, the rover explores Mars’ Utopia Planitia and sends photos from the region to China’s National Space Administration.

Mars rover Zhurong has been exploring the surface of the Red Planet Mars for more than a year, and now he has a major hurdle ahead of him: surviving the harsh winter on Mars.

While it was announced that the same path will be followed for Zhurong, who was put into hibernation on May 18 last year to save Mars from the winter season, the exploration vehicle is preparing for a sleep that will last 154 days. On the surface of Mars, where the maximum daytime temperature is -22 degrees at the moment, the air temperature can drop to -100 degrees during the winter.

Zhurong is expected to be awakened from hibernation in the early Martian spring starting December 26, 2022.
