The first of LG Display’s new panels will be LG Electronics’ 27-inch WOLED, which can be used as a TV or computer monitor. LG’s upcoming new panels are different from mid-size OLED monitors that use JOLED panels. WOLED displays actually contrast with OLEDs at one point. Instead of sending light through traditional RGB emitters, WOLED panels emit white light through colored filters, similar to LCDs. So to put it more simply: WOLED is actually much like LCD, but some features are similar to OLED. In WOLED panels, each pixel glows white and uses the RGB filter to create different colors. So they are more different than standard OLEDs.
In 2023, LG and other panel/monitor manufacturers will continue to produce monitors and TVs larger than 40 inches. Differently, LG will try to offer a price advantage with smaller WOLED monitors. We will probably see similar moves from other companies to compete.
