Google Bard is now much “smarter”
Currently, Bard is supported by the new Gemini model for English-speaking users in 170 countries. While Google says Gemini will come to more languages and countries “in the near future,” it notes that this model matches and even exceeds OpenAI’s technology in many ways. As we stated in the article detailing the Gemini model, this model comes in three versions: Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra. The Bard chatbot will use Gemini Pro.
Sissie Hsiao, who manages Bard and Assistant at Google, said in a press briefing that Gemini is the “biggest and best upgrade yet” for Bard. So Bard should now be better at almost everything he currently does: summarizing, brainstorming, writing, and the like. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai underlines that in his tests, there is a general improvement rather than a new feature.
Google has shared many demo videos based on Gemini Ultra. When you recreate the scene of Neo getting rid of pennies in the Matrix, for example, Bard and indirectly Gemini Ultra can know which scene of the movie this belongs to. It all looks pretty impressive. But these are all just demos and promotional videos for now. Pichai says he sees this launch as both a big moment for Bard and the beginning of the Gemini era. But if Google’s benchmarking is accurate, the new model could make Bard as good or a better chatbot as ChatGPT.
