Monthly website visits for ChatGPT, the hugely popular AI chatbot launched by OpenAI in November, dropped for the third consecutive month in August, according to analytics firm Similarweb. Although the bleeding continues for ChatGPT, there are signs that the decline may be coming to an end.

ChatGPT continues to lose blood

Worldwide desktop and mobile website visits to the ChatGPT website decreased 3.2 percent in August to 1.43 billion, following declines of nearly 10 percent in each of the previous two months. The time visitors spend on the website has also decreased on a monthly basis since March. The average time users spent on the site in August decreased from 8.7 minutes to 7 minutes.

On the other hand, there are good things for ChatGPT. According to August data, the number of unique visitors worldwide increased from 180 million to 180.5 million. However, the opening of schools in September may help ChatGPT’s traffic and usage. Additionally, some schools have even begun to adopt direct use of ChatGPT. Another sign of traffic growth is the slight increase in the United States, where schools have started.

ChatGPT has led to the wild use of generative AI in daily tasks from coding to students’ homework, reaching 100 million monthly active users in January, two months after its launch. ChatGPT was the fastest-growing consumer app ever before Meta’s Threads launched and is now one of the top 30 websites in the world. Finally, OpenAI also released ChatGPT’s Android and iOS app. Some of the traffic decline can also be attributed to this.
