Twitter has officially announced that it has added the double checkmark feature, which it decided to implement first and canceled even after 24 hours, to the platform again after even 24 hours. This system brings a second checkmark in addition to the currently available blue checkmark.
The regular blue checkmark is available to anyone who purchases an $8 Twitter Blue subscription on the platform. The new gray checkmark will show if an account is an official account.
This decision is a fake Nintendo of America account posting a picture of Mario showing his middle finger, a fake LeBron James asking for a trade, like fake Tony Blair retweeting fake George Bush’s “I miss killing Iraqis” tweet saying “Obviously the same” It came after situations triggered tremendous chaos on the platform. All these accounts had a blue checkmark next to their names.
Various crypto scam attempts have also surfaced, with many different accounts pretending to be Twitter itself and trying to steal NFTs.
Later, Elon Musk announced that fake accounts would be permanently banned from Twitter.
In response to spam and trolls hijacking the platform, Twitter has also introduced a new rule that Twitter accounts created on or after November 9, 2022 cannot subscribe to Twitter Blue.
The double official tag can now be seen on company accounts such as Coca Cola, McDonald’s and Nintendo of America’s.
In his first company-wide email, Elon Musk asked his employees to prepare for tough times as the economy turns into turmoil affecting an ad-dependent platform like Twitter. It also banned remote working and required its employees to be at the office for at least 40 hours each week.
Musk also warned employees that the company could face bankruptcy.
