TSMC’s production capacity is full
For those who don’t know, Qualcomm’s next processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be based on TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process. However, current reports indicate that TSMC does not have sufficient capacity. So much so that 85% of this share is reserved for Apple, while a 15% share is left for Qualcomm. In addition, MediaTek processors will be included in this share in the future.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 production may move to Samsung
As such, Qualcomm may stick to a dual-source approach that includes both Samsung and TSMC. At this point, he says Samsung has achieved an efficiency rate of between 55 percent and 70-80 percent in 3nm production. However, regardless of the number, we can see the company knocking on Samsung’s door to reach a sufficient production volume. Because if we consider the “Snapdragon for Galaxy” cooperation between Qualcomm and Samsung, it will not be surprising.
If we recall, Qualcomm followed a similar strategy for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. However, problems such as the low yield rate caused the company to turn to TSMC again. So we’ll have to wait a little longer to see what the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 has to offer.
