Cardano will release a software toolkit that will enable them to deploy custom built sidechains on it.
The toolkit will allow sidechain developers to choose their own consensus mechanisms and other application-specific features while inheriting the security of the main chain. A sidechain is an independent blockchain that runs adjacent to the main blockchain, often referred to as the mainnet. Sidechains often try to add scalability to the mainnet that prioritizes decentralization and security.
Cardano Will Expand With Custom Side Chains
The team behind the Cardano ecosystem plans to release a software toolkit later this month that will allow developers to deploy custom-built sidechains on Cardano aimed at improving the ecosystem.
The announcement by Input Output Global (IOG) on Jan. 12 included the official technical documentation and descriptions for the sidechain toolkit.
⛓️ The #Cardano sidechain toolkit was previewed at #IOScotFest, and we’re happy to share the first iteration is out now.

IOG developers are currently using the toolkit to create an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible sidechain public testnet as a “Proof of concept”. Once the audit is complete, anyone will be able to deploy decentralized applications, create smart contracts, and move tokens between different test chains.
