Input Output Global and founder of the Cardano network, Charles Hoskinson, tweeted that an official invitation has arrived to speak about blockchain and cryptocurrencies before the US House of Representatives Agriculture Committee.
The Agricultural Committee was established in 1820 with regard to farming and nowadays, among other duties, oversees commodities that are grown in large quantities and then sold. In 1974, the CFTC was established in the USA (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) to regulate commodity futures trading. The newly created CFTC made the existence of the Ministry of Agriculture Commodity Exchange Authority unnecessary.
So now, the Agriculture Committee has authorized the CFTC to regulate commodity futures trading.
Bitcoin and Ethereum have been described as commodities in recent years, and senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Cynthia Lummis have recently suggested they stay that way. However, other digital currencies may be considered securities or “auxiliary assets” such as ADA and SOL.
The event, which will take place on June 23 with Charles Hoskinson from Cardano, will be streamed live on YouTube for anyone interested to watch.
