Climate crisis has been among the words we have heard frequently in recent years. However, this term has been engraved in our minds not as a success, a positive situation, but as a description of a problem that awaits us in the future and puts the world in danger. However, the issue of carbon emissions has also started to come up frequently in recent times. Carbon emission, which defines the amount of carbon dioxide gas emitted into the atmosphere, poses a danger to our world.

Important studies are carried out around the world to reduce carbon emissions caused by factors such as uncontrolled and imprudent industrialization, population density, decrease in green areas and concrete buildings, unconscious release of greenhouse gases into nature. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has also signed an exemplary work in this regard.

“Our goal is to reduce the carbon footprint per passenger”

Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, being aware of the fact that the transportation sector also has effects on carbon emissions, made plans in the field of transportation and reduced its carbon emissions by 17 thousand tons between the years 2016-2021. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Inc. reduced the number of flights from 9,311 in the neighborhoods passing through the city walls and around the square to 2 thousand 36 with the free transfer application, and achieved a 33 percent improvement in the number of passengers transported per kilometer. As a result of these improvements, fleet kilometers were reduced in 2016-2021 and fuel consumption decreased by approximately 6 million 400 thousand liters. Since the level of fuel consumption, which produced 17 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions before the decrease, was reduced, carbon emissions decreased by 17 thousand tons.

Feyzullah Gündoğdu, General Manager of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Inc., gave information about the study, “We became a party to the Paris Climate Agreement with the decision taken in the Assembly. We have committed to reducing carbon emissions by 21 percent until 2030. If we look at the transportation side, our transportation sector will be in 2030. “We need to reduce 46 million tons of greenhouse gas. We have set targets for ourselves in line with our country’s goals. Our targets are to reduce our carbon footprint per passenger by 40 percent by rail systems by 2028. To reduce the carbon footprint per passenger on the bus by 36 percent,” he said.
