Sony and Honda, the giant companies of Japan, formed a partnership a while ago and rolled up their sleeves for a fully electric car they would jointly develop. The work carried out within the scope of this partnership, called Sony Honda Mobility, showed itself at the world’s largest consumer electronics fair, which started as of today. Sony Honda Mobility has officially introduced the first electric car prototype “Afeela”.

Appearing as a sedan, the Afeela draws attention with its plain and minimalist structure. The engineers, who create the front and rear lighting of the vehicle with thin strip LEDs, use cameras instead of side mirrors. Adopting the closed grille design, the car has an LED illuminated Afeela logo. Sony Honda Mobility has chosen to bring aerodynamics to the fore in this car.

Introducing Afeela!

The electric car, which is a joint work of Sony and Honda, impresses with its interior design. Equipping the front console completely with a screen, the engineers have divided these screens for different functionality. For example, we see the side mirrors on the left and right sides, the display screen in front of the driver and the multimedia system in all the remaining parts. According to the statement, cooperation was made with Epic Games for this multimedia screen. Details are unclear.

Dashboard, screen-covered throughout

Simplicity is evident not only in exterior design, but also in interior design. Having a U-shaped steering wheel, Afeela provides access to all controls of the vehicle with the buttons here. In the middle, the rotary button does not escape attention. The glass roof of the vehicle is one piece. Although it cannot be opened, it offers a wide panoramic view.

According to the statements made, there are 45 cameras and sensors in Afeela. These are components manufactured by Sony. Sony Honda Mobility, which has partnered with Qualcomm for the chips in the vehicle, states that there will be a third-level autonomous driving system in the vehicle. However, this system will be used as a second level in the city. So the driver will have to follow the road with great care.

No guesses for the price

No statement was made regarding Afeela’s engine and battery. In addition, there is no estimate on the price of the vehicle. Mass production will begin in the second half of 2025, and in 2026 it will first reach consumers in North America. It is not known exactly what the fate of the vehicle will be in the European and Asian markets.
