Chinese giant technology companies Huawei and ZTE continue to face product and 5G equipment bans from countries. Now, Canada has announced its new ban, following the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes many countries (Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States).
Network equipment will be replaced
Saying that the interconnectedness and interdependence of 5G networks makes exploitation much more important, Canada said that telecommunications companies operating in the country will no longer be allowed to use equipment or services provided by Huawei and ZTE, and that announced that companies that use the equipment should stop using it.
Canadian Minister of Science and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, who said that the new decision was reviewed by the country’s independent security agencies, said, “The Canadian government ensures the long-term security of our telecommunications infrastructure.
China will ban Windows and many foreign brands
According to the country’s new decision, telecom companies will be prohibited from purchasing new 5G or 4G equipment or managed services from Huawei and ZTE from the beginning of September, after which companies will have to dismantle their existing 5G equipment. They will have until June 28, 2024 and until the end of 2027 to remove LTE.
