China’s largest technology companies joined forces. Although electric cars are taking the world by storm today, driverless cars aim much further. What if highways were designed for driverless cars? Based on this question, China started to develop a highway project for driverless cars. In this sense, Huawei, Baidu and Alibaba came together.

Huawei, Baidu and Alibaba are designing highways for driverless cars

China’s Ministry of Transport has teamed up with Huawei, Baidu and Alibaba to redesign highways for driverless cars. In this sense, the Chinese Ministry of Transport will create a directive with the technology giants that outlines this design.

In fact, it is not a coincidence that these three companies came together. As you know, Baidu is among the companies that produce the world’s most important driverless cars. The company’s driverless robotaxis have already become active in Chinese cities. In this sense, the company has experience in how driverless cars can more easily perceive basic traffic signs such as traffic lights and traffic signs.

Huawei, on the other hand, will produce solutions for easier connection of driverless cars to networks on highways. As you know, Huawei is among the important companies, especially in mobile networks and base stations. In this sense, Alibaba is taking over the project on the cloud technologies side. The company, which has the largest cloud infrastructure in China, will ensure that the network to be established on highways is constantly synchronized via the cloud.

China’s aim is to ensure traffic safety by providing instant data to driverless cars. Thus, it is aimed to prevent accidents caused by driverless cars. Of course, the only purpose here is not to provide trust for driverless cars. China made a huge investment of $217 billion to modernize highways in 2022 alone.

The Chinese Ministry of Transport also plans to establish roadside IT facilities in the project it has developed for driverless cars. Accordingly, these facilities will be responsible for collecting and distributing traffic data from roads and vehicles. These facilities will also ensure network security. In this sense, a series of measures will be put into effect in terms of the confidentiality and integrity of traffic data.

The instructions for the project, which brings together Huawei, Baidu and Alibaba, will appear on December 1. It is currently unclear when the highway project for driverless cars will come into effect.
